Immediately after the Earthquake, IHC flew to Haiti to provide relief. (See video) Since 2006 we have worked in :
- Providing services: basic primary health care, medical referrals, covering basic needs as food, baby formula, medications, supplies , clothing, toys, etc. to those in need. Most of this service has been in the orphanage below :
o Orphanage Rose “ Mina” de Diegue, located in Port –au- Prince (Petion Ville) , This orphanage has 70 kids – from few months to 17 years old- with only 2 employees 24/ 7 and a salary of $60 /month, not running water, not electricity , 4 bedrooms and 2 toilets – for all kids. The health condition of babies and small kids have been affected with malnutrition, parasites, and some of them with congenital malformations. Food, hygiene and health care is very limited.
§ Since our intervention: we have increased staffing improving facility conditions. Kids are provided with regular basic health care : the health situation improved considerably: malnutrition , infectious diseases ,worms rates have decrease considerably.
§ Referral for specialized medical treatment. A girl of 17 years old was transferred to the navy US ship for surgery. She had a benign growing facial tumor producing an important face deformity
o Primary Heath Care Clinic : Opening and Management of a primary health clinic con the hillside of Petion Ville , Port au Prince . We are at the initial stage
- Professional collaboration with Haiti: Consultant with the Haitian Public Health Association, collaboration with Quisqueya University and GHEISKIO CENTER. Developing research regarding in different areas : Analysis of Health status of Haiti ( before the quake ) , inmates health
